When my husband and I first got married, we both brought a lot of debt into our covenant marriage. My husband, JD, had IRS debt and student loan debt. I had student loan debt as well as credit card debt. I’m embarrassed to say that combined our debt totaled around $65,000.
One day the doorbell rang, and to my astonishment it was a police officer. He served my husband papers from the IRS. The papers read that he had about one month to pay off $12,500 or he might face jail time.
I was shocked, sad, frustrated and scared. I didn’t understand how this could have happened. But, JD and I prayed to the Lord, we fasted, and we were faithful that somehow God would help us figure out what to do. But, I had no idea how God would answer our prayers in such a short amount of time.
About two weeks later, JD called me on the phone from work to say that he had received an email tied to his late mother's estate. (His mother had died the previous year.) The email said that he would be getting a refund due to a major accounting error. JD was owed $13,000!
I was in disbelief. Crying, I literally fell onto the floor praising God for His faithfulness. He sent the money at the perfect time. JD and I never saw that coming. And, it was only by the grace of God that this happened. There is zero doubt in my mind that this was a grace-filled blessing sent straight from God. God had performed a miracle!
This miracle is worth keeping a record of, and so I write this story so that you will hear of God’s faithfulness.
Did you know that God wants you to remember his faithfulness too? Not only does He want you to remember, but He also wants you to keep a record of his faithfulness.
We see this record in Joshua 4: 19-24 GNT when memorial stones were set up to remember God’s goodness, faithfulness, and protection after the Israelites had crossed the Jordan River. God asked Joshua to choose twelve men each carrying one stone to represent the twelve tribes of Israel.
“The people crossed the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month and camped at Gilgal, east of Jericho. There Joshua set up the twelve stones taken from the Jordan. And he said to the people of Israel, ‘In the future, when your children ask you what these stones mean, you will tell them about the time when Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground. Tell them that the Lord your God dried up the water of the Jordan for you until you had crossed, just as he dried up the Red Sea for us. Because of this everyone on earth will know how great the Lord's power is, and you will honor the Lord your God forever.’ ”
We are to honor God by keeping a record, so that future generations and everyone living will know what miracles God has done.
The easiest way personally to keep a record is by writing a journal. When God answers your prayers, you will have a record of His faithfulness written in your own personal journal.
You could even keep a rock garden in your back yard, or build your own personal monument in your house or yard to commemorate God. I already have a rock garden located in my front flower garden. I plan to paint more stones to remember God’s faithfulness.
This is important because when things get tough in your life, you will have a record to look back on and remember so that you can keep your faith during life’s struggles.
I am proud to say that in 3 years of purposefully paying down debt, we only have about $30,000 of that debt left to payoff. Each month we keep a strict budget aligned with Godly principles to continually pay down our debts.
So, if you have experienced God’s faithfulness, keep a RECORD and share it with others so that they can know about God’s goodness too.
Be Blessed,
