I am so easily distracted away from spending time with Jesus. I actually believe busyness is an epidemic in our society, and I’m the first one to admit I have this problem.
I sit down to read scripture or a devotional, or just to pray and spend time with Jesus. Then, my phone dings and the next thing I know I’ve just wasted twenty minutes on social media. My time is up, and my Jesus time gets pushed off to another day.
Or, have you ever heard the acronym for busy? BURDENED UNDER SATAN’S YOKE. If the devil can keep you busy, over-worked, and distracted, he can keep you from your God-given destiny. The devil can keep you from growing up in your faith, and he can keep you from spending time with God and listening to God.
Lets’ look at Luke 10:38-42 GNT. Jesus is very clear in this scripture that Mary chose the right path. She did not serve Jesus in the way Martha did, but instead Mary served Jesus by simply sitting at Jesus’s feet and listening to Him.
38 As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him in her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of the Lord and listened to his teaching. 40 Martha was upset over all the work she had to do, so she came and said, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!”
41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things, 42 but just one is needed. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Here, Jesus shows us that yes serving others and working is important, but more important is to stop, make time for Jesus, and listen to His teachings.
How many of us can say we are more like Martha? Yup, that’s me. I am a doer and more often than not forget to sit down and LISTEN.
Another important part of this scripture is what Jesus says to Martha that she is “worried” and “troubled over so many things.” How many of you are worriers? How many of you are troubled?
Maybe we’d all be less worried and troubled if we actually sat down at Christ’s feet and stopped worrying. Instead, we can pray and receive Christ’s peace and teaching just like Mary did.
I hope this serves as a great reminder to you that nothing is more important in our lives than spending time with Jesus. I hope you can make time for Him today and all the days of your life.
Many Blessings,
