Leave Your Worries with Jesus

by Allison Dillaberry

Have you ever trusted God so much that you just went for that big promotion, new relationship or new home? Whatever that next step is just take it. God is sovereign, and He is in control.

Now I’m not saying to sin or be reckless. I am saying to walk bravely forward and be unafraid. There are so many verses in the Bible that say not to be afraid. We can live in freedom and trust God to take care of us.

“The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9 ESV). God is sovereign. We have nothing to worry about. We have free will and can make plans, but ultimately God is in control and will steer the outcome.

When I was going through my divorce, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I made plans to move forward but had no way of seeing the future. I prayed and made thoughtful decisions. I asked for advice and I lined my decisions up with God’s word. But ultimately, I had to let go of control because so many things were up in the air and completely out of my control. My livelihood, my home, my future, everything was so unsure.

Some of you may be going through things like this now with the loss of a job and so much uncertainty in your future. God does not promise tomorrow or that we will live without struggle. In Deuteronomy 31:6, He does promise… “to never leave us or forsake us.” I can promise you that He has never left me, and He will never leave you either.

I did however need to be courageous and brave and struck out on a new career. I did need to be trusting in God with my words and actions. I continue to seek trust in God rather than fear in my daily life, something I admittedly struggle with.

I was also afraid of starting a new romantic relationship. As I carefully have walked forward, God has blessed me through these two new things. Are they prefect, no. But they are good and full of daily blessings. More than anything, God has kept me safe and led me to still waters. He continues to teach me many things about myself and others. And the more I trust him, the less worry and anxiety I have and the more joy I feel.

Let’s stop being our own worst enemy with negative talk and hopelessness. A great way to practice this is by counting your blessings each day. It helps you get into a mindset of thankfulness. Remember what God has done for you in the past.

Thank Him daily for what you do have. Look at your blessings today, not your troubles of tomorrow. We don’t know what is in store for tomorrow, so just live for today and make it the best day you can. Leave the worrying to Jesus. He has the final say anyway.

Stay blessed,
